Ministry Update

October 2008 - January 2009

Dear Praying Friends,

It has been a while since we sent out our last update and now January is already over! We are just that much closer to the return of our Saviour!

The last few months of 2008 were busy and exciting. We had meetings in Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, California, Indiana, Alabama and Florida. We covered thousands of miles and experienced nearly every kind of weather imaginable, but the Lord blessed and we had a great time ministering to people all across the country.

I was able to preach and sing for the annual "Soldiers Of The Cross" men's conference at Liberty Baptist Church in Newport Beach, California, in November. It was a blessing to see men from all over Southern California come together to be encouraged in their walk with God. It takes godly men to have godly families, and godly families to have strong churches, and strong churches to impact our country for the Lord Jesus Christ. I don't think we can over-emphasize the importance of men having a right relationship with God and I was honored to be a part of the conference.

We flew to Alaska the last week of December to spend Christmas with family before heading up to Fairbanks, where we were able to spend several days at our home church, Bible Baptist Church. While we were in Fairbanks, we recorded a new CD entitled "Wonderful Peace... More Songs To Remember." It contains fourteen songs, some of which you will recognize and others that you may hear for the first time. It should be available by April. We will announce its release on the website.

The first week of January, we held a revival meeting at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Juneau. Pastor Joe Mishler and his family are doing a great job there and we enjoyed the opportunity to be with them. It was too cold for the kids to play outside in Fairbanks, so we made the best of our visit to Juneau by sliding down the snow piles and pulling the sled around in the hotel parking lot.

We spent the next weekend in Valdez with Pastor Brian Fickes and the people of Valdez Bible Baptist Church. Brother Fickes went to Valdez several years ago as a missionary and started the church. It is now a self-supporting work and he is pastoring some fine people there.

After Valdez, we flew out to the Eskimo village of Selawik. It had been several years since Liz and I last visited Selawik and we were excited to go back with the whole family. Brother Warren Compton and his family have been serving the Lord there faithfully for twelve years and have made a tremendous impact on the people of that village. Many times it takes years of faithful laboring in villages like Selawik, just to gain credibility in the community. The Comptons have a good testimony among the people and have seen many souls saved and many lives changed over the years. Please pray for them as they continue to serve the Lord and raise their family in such a difficult place.

One night we had ice cream. If you want ice cream in Selawik, you will pay $22.00 per gallon, and that's for the cheap stuff! Many items are simply not available and you just have to go without or find a way to get it flown into the village. Hope and David were thrilled to be able to ride with Bro. Compton on the snowmobile to church each night and they fit in so well with the kids, you would have thought they were born and raised in the village.

Liz and I walked back and forth each night and we were blessed to have "warm" weather. It was hovering near zero all week and we only had high wind a couple of days. That may sound cold, but trust me, that is pretty good for January in Selawik!

Our last service in Alaska was at Immanuel Baptist in Kenai. My mother is the organist at Immanuel and I graduated from the Christian school there many, many, many years ago so it is always good to see the people there and renew old acquaintances.

You will want to check out all of the new pictures on the website. We had a great time in Alaska but it surely went by in a hurry. We look forward to seeing many of you in 2009 as we travel around the country, until then please remember to pray for us and we will do the same for you.

God bless you,

Mark Rogers
