April – June 2014
Dear Praying Friends,
Spring has already flown past and Summer is in full swing. We have covered a lot of territory since our last letter and we are grateful for your prayers as we travel.
We closed out our last letter as we were headed to Trinidad with missionary James Hoffmeister for a meeting. Several churches from around the island came together in San Fernando for a crusade in the city park. They had certainly worked hard advertising, inviting, passing out flyers and praying for the meeting. God blessed every night with tremendous attendance and numbers of people trusted Christ as Saviour every service. The people were very receptive and we had a great time there.
While we were in Trinidad, the kids and I had the opportunity to visit several Hindu temples and see real idolatry in action. They had read about it but to see that it is not just something that took place centuries ago was a real eye opener! People had brought food and money to lie at the feet of the idols, hoping to gain the favor of their gods. What a joy to have a living God that loves us and hears and answers prayer, and sent his son, Jesus Christ, to be the perfect sacrifice for our sin!
We also got to see public cremations right beside the road. That was quite a cultural experience! The heat from the funeral pyres was so intense that we had to move back several times. You can check out some pictures on our website at www.mrogers.com.
When we got back from Trinidad we had good revival meetings with Pastor Seth Alcorn at Rivermont Baptist in Front Royal, VA and Pastor Albert Payne at Maranatha Baptist in Amissville, VA.
We were able to be with Pastor James Frost and the good folks of Solid Rock Baptist Church in Bellefontaine, Ohio for a revival meeting the last few days of April and the first few days of May. It was our first time at Solid Rock Baptist and it was a great meeting. Bro. Frost has done a wonderful job there and God has truly blessed their efforts.
Our next meeting was in Harmony, Pennsylvania with Pastor Dave Smith at First Bible Baptist Church. We were able to celebrate the churches thirty-fifth anniversary that week.
Liz had the privilege of speaking for two Mother’s Day meetings, one at Faith Baptist Church in North Ridgeville, Ohio and one at Grace Baptist Church in Oak Harbor, Ohio. She always does a wonderful job and the ladies are always blessed and encouraged.
We spent Mother’s Day Sunday at Capitol City Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio. Pastor Mark Carpenter is doing a great job there in Columbus and we always enjoy spending time with them.
When we left Columbus on Monday morning we were headed back to our house in Kentucky for the first time in over two months! I must say we were certainly glad to be going home! For the next several weeks we had only Sunday meetings and we got to spend some time at the house. It almost looked like somebody lived there again for a while!
In June we had a revival meeting at Calvary Baptist in New Philadelphia, Ohio and then before having our annual Father’s day services at Fellowship Baptist in Lebanon, Ohio.
Once again this year we were privileged to be a part of the Heartland Bible Conference at Hope Baptist Church in Toledo. This meeting is always one of the highlights of our year and the kids especially enjoy the VBS that they put on every day during the conference.
While we were around home, Hope and David got to participate in a car wash to raise money for camp. They had a great time, got very wet and tired, but were very excited to be able to take part. They both got to go to Camp Victory in Somerset, Kentucky this year and really enjoyed it.
As I write today, we are in Thamesford, Ontario, Canada preaching for the Canadian Independent Baptist Camp Meeting. This is the second time we have been able to be a part of this meeting and we are looking forward to a great week.
Please continue to pray for us, as we will be traveling to the west coast in July and August, and then back toward the east again in September.
Pray for safety, good health and protection.
God bless you,
