Dear Praying Friends,
Some of you may have thought that we had dropped off the face of the earth since our last update in April. I am glad to announce that we are still here and just busier than ever! We have literally "crisscrossed" the country since we last wrote, and have enjoyed the blessings of God in the North, South East and West.
Other than a broken spring and shock on the trailer and an EGR valve going bad on the truck, most of our repair issues have been relatively minor. Sometimes we take for granted the way that the Lord watches over and protects us. Everything that has had to be fixed has been done just when needed and we have made it to every meeting right on schedule! That really is an amazing feat when you consider our crazy schedule!
Our usual pattern is to go to Alaska just before Christmas and then spend several weeks around the state in meetings. This year we decided to make the trip in the summer. It had been four years since we were in Alaska in the summer and neither of the kids could remember being at Grandma's house when there wasn't snow. We spent five weeks and visited several churches around the state while working in a good amount of family time.
Hope and David got to go fishing for the first time and it was quite a successful outing. You will have to check out the pictures to see the fruit of our labors.
It was good to be with Pastor Boutwell at Immanuel Baptist in Kenai. This is the church where my mother attends and plays the organ. Hope and David got to be in Grandma's Sunday School class, so that was a special treat.
We also had some great services at Homer Independent Baptist Church in Homer, Northern Lights Baptist Church in Anchorage and Bible Baptist Church in Fairbanks.
Since Hope trusted Christ as Saviour last fall and David did the same in June, I had the privilege of baptizing both of them while we were in Fairbanks. I think I may have been more nervous than they were, but it all went well and everyone survived!
After returning to the Lower Forty-Eight (that's anyplace other than Alaska) we made our way back across the country with meetings in Idaho, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Ohio.
While we were at Fallsburg Baptist Church in Fallsburg, Ohio, we got word that our good friend, Jim White, had gone home to be with the Lord. I first got to know Bro. White while he was a missionary in Alaska. I was just a teenager and had never (and still haven't) heard anybody preach like Jim White! Bro. White was actually one of my teachers in High School for a while and his dear wife, Judy, taught a first-aid course for the school. I don't know of any man that has had more of an impact on my life and ministry than Bro. Jim White. He and his family have been like family to me over the years.
We were honored to be able to go and take part in the funeral service and to spend some time reminiscing with the family and friends who gathered for his home going. Bro. Jim will be greatly missed, but what a joy to know that the separation is only temporary and we will once again rejoice together one day around the throne of our dear Saviour! Heaven will truly be a wonderful place!
Our fall and winter months are going to be full and busy but we are excited about what the Lord is doing and thrilled to be a small part of His wonderful work.
Thank you for your ongoing prayer support. We appreciate each of you and look forward to seeing you next time we are in your area.
God bless you,
