May - July 2003
We trust that this letter finds you enjoying the Summer months. They seem to pass all too quickly. Just this afternoon we were walking through Wal-Mart (we seem to end up there quite often!) and were surprised to see a shelf full of Autumn decorations and it's only July! I don't know about you, but I refuse to be pushed into the next season when I've barely gotten into this one.
We would all do well to stop and take advantage of where we are right now instead of trying to jump ahead to the next thing. I believe that many times we get so caught up in "busy things" that we miss out on the really important things going on around us that truly deserve our attention. No, I am not talking about world events and the political and social problems that take up so much of our time. I am referring to the things of God. If there is not enough time to read the Word of God, spend time in prayer, tell someone about the Lord and be faithful to church, then without qualification, we are TOO busy!
Our desire as we travel the country, is not just to meet wonderful people and have good services in great churches. Our desire is to see revival, not just "special meetings, but real revival. That is the only hope for America and the world.
Many people ask what needs we have and how they should pray for us as we travel. We really appreciate each and every one of you that prays for us. We need safety, health, strength, wisdom in dealing with people and situations, and direction from God every day about what to sing and preach. But, most of all, we ask that you would pray with us that God would send revival.
We have been far and wide, back and forth, and up and down all across the country since the last update. I will just give you a few of the highlights of the last few months.
We were able to be in Michigan the last part of April at Parkview Baptist Church in Livonia. Pastor Steve Brown is doing a great job there and we had a good week there before heading over to Lansing, Michigan, to be with Dr. Don Green at Parker Memorial Baptist. It is always a blessing to be with Dr. Green. I have very few "heroes" in the ministry and the list seems to get shorter every year, but Dr. Green is one of my heroes.
The first week of May, we were able to be part of a missions conference at Lighthouse Baptist in Missoula, Montana. It was an exciting conference and we saw God do some great things that week.
The rest of the month of May, we were in meetings in Washington, Idaho, Arizona and New Mexico. While holding a revival meeting at Alpha Baptist Church in Deming, New Mexico, we were able to go down into Old Mexico, to the city of Ascension and hold an open air meeting in the square. Several folks trusted Christ as Saviour and we passed out hundreds of tracts. Liz had never been to Mexico before, so it was quite an adventure. Pastor James Flores is in a hard place there in Deming, but he is doing a good job and is determined to be faithful there.
June found us in Ohio for meetings in Cincinnati, Mansfield, Williamsfield and Oak Harbor, as well as the annual Bible Conference at Hope Baptist in Toledo, the annual Tent Meeting at First Bible Baptist in Harmony, PA and the annual Camp Meeting at Faith Baptist in Franklin, KY. June was a busy month!
We spent the first week of July at Treasure Valley Baptist Church in Meridian, Idaho, for their annual Preaching Conference. Pastor Rick DeMichele is doing a tremendous job there and God is blessing the ministry. Please remember him in prayer as he deals with leukemia. It was a great week of preaching, singing, fellowship and food. It also has the distinction of being the only meeting I know of, where you finish the meeting with a "rock picking party" in the Pastor's yard when it's all over. We made a memory!
We have a brand new CD available called "Sheltered. It is a mixture of new songs and old favorites that I think will be a real blessing to you. Three of the songs are duets that I believe you will enjoy. Everyone asks "When will you record something with Liz?" Well, here it is! You can hear samples on the web site (www.mrogers.com) and order it by printing out the form at the end of the page.
God bless you,
