December 2002 - January 2003
December was a busy month. We started out with meetings at Landmark Baptist Church in Haines City, Florida. We had a great time there at the church, as well as with the Senior Patriots group. Pastor Carter has done a tremendous job there in Haines City and the Lord has truly blessed the ministry.
After leaving Florida, we were able to stop off in Bon Secour, Alabama, on Wednesday night to preach for Bro. Wayne Mund at Fishermen Baptist Church. I have known Bro. Mund for several years, since he has made a few trips to Alaska, but this was my first opportunity to see the work there in Alabama.
The next two weeks we were in Virginia. We were able to be at Temple Baptist in Fredericksburg and Gid Brown Bible Baptist in Washington, Virginia. We finished the meetings in Virginia the week before Christmas and then prepared to fly north.
I trust that you had a wonderful Christmas season. Liz and I had the opportunity to spend the week before Christmas in Pasco, Washington, with her parents and then flew up to Alaska to spend the next week with my family. We ate way too much, but we had a great time of relaxation with family and friends.
While we were in Alaska for Christmas, we were able to drive over and preach at Independent Baptist Church of Homer where Bro. Norris Ward has started a new church. It was good to see how the Lord has blessed this new church with a good location and a beautiful new building. The town of Homer was in desperate need of a good, solid, Bible-believing Baptist Church and now there is one there doing the job. Praise the Lord!
After Christmas, we flew back "Outside" (everywhere other than Alaska) to be with Pastor Jerry Siler at Cornerstone Baptist Temple in Dayton, Ohio. Bro. Roy Thompson and his wife were with us that week as well, and we had a wonderful time of fellowship together. We had a "Watch Night" service to close out 2002 with lots of preaching, singing and praying that the Lord would return in 2003! Cornerstone Baptist Temple is an exciting place and a real testimony to the power of God.
The next week, we were just south of Dayton in Carlisle, Ohio. Pastor Mike Gray and the good folk of Baptist Tabernacle are always gracious hosts and we had a great meeting there.
We then flew back to Alaska, where we preached in the town of Kotzebue on Saturday night and Sunday morning. Bro. Dan Snyder and his family have been there for several years and are doing a good job in a hard place.
Sunday afternoon we caught the little plane over to the village of Selawik, where we spent the next six days with the Compton family, missionaries out of my home church. They have now been in the village for six years and God has truly blessed their faithfulness. It is encouraging to see the growth in the lives of the people over the course of time.
Please pray for the Comptons and the Snyders as they labor in places that most of you will never go. We closed out the month of January with meetings in Soldotna and Chugiak, Alaska. It was a blessing to be able to take my lovely wife to some of the places that I have been going for years and introduce her to people that have had a great impact on my life. God is good!
Please continue to pray for us as we travel around the country. We have a very busy schedule and it is the faithful prayers of God's people that keeps us going. Our greatest needs are, continued health, safety on the roads, and the blessing of God in the meetings.
Make sure you check out the new pictures on the web site. www.mrogers.com. You can also find out where we will be by checking the itinerary on the web site. There are usually several months at a time listed there. We hope to see you soon!
God bless you,
